At 11am this morning, I received the following statement from Ipswich Superintendent Brian Blake, where the validity of the receipt of cigar making materials presented by a lacrosse parent is disputed. Also gives the school’s timeline on the decision to forfeit.

@BenVolin @mattyports The parents and kids went on tv and radio to sell their bs story. All lies, and defamatory toward school admins. Just terrible people. I think the punishment for the cigar is too much, but get the zero tolerance policy as written. I have no sympathy for them now though.

The dad’s cockamamie story should have raised questions to anyone with a brain, nevermind the conveniently smudged receipt. I think they were looking for the truth so they didn’t suspend innocent kids.

@bmwfan550m @johnfgately No. Their crime was stupidity. They knew the rule about tobacco use and smoked anyway. They took a picture of themselves doing it. A dad posted it online despite knowing the rule. Then they came out with some cockamamie story about chamomile tea and tried to get the admin fired.

@sabotage20 @KatCornetta I think the punishment is too harsh but I understand it is zero tolerance and the players knew about it before. I lost a lot of sympathy for them when I heard the whole fake cigar story. It was obviously a lie. The players said they knew the tobacco rule beforehand.

@sabotage20 @gregcap74 @KatCornetta I think teaching the kids that following rules important. That life is often unfair and that the choices you make in life matter. Certainly better things than teaching them to not take accountability and to lie and throw others under the bus.
