@ClassicalAegis The figure lying on the steps is not Diogenes, but Socrates. Socrates - who is also identified next to Alexander - never met Alexander the Great. Moreover, the presence of a cup (asociaced with hemlock) besides the reclining figurek alludes to the method of Socrates' execution.

If Canaletto, as is generally claimed, used a camera obscura, how did he create images where the vanishing point is 5 metres high and above the water? Did he build a scaffolding in the middle of the canal? Of course not. He was one of the best masters of perspective system.
