By the way, it's been 4 months since the last authorised US military aid package for Ukraine, and lots of very ridiculous "foreign policy realists" insisted that Ukraine and Russia would broker a peace treaty if Ukraine was finally cut off. All that has happened is that more Ukrainian soldiers and civilians have been killed because Ukraine now lacks the ammunition to sufficiently defend itself, while Russia continues to rearm through its allies. The war is not only still ongoing, but Russia is gaining the upper hand. Helping Ukraine or abandoning Ukraine. Those have always been the only two options on the table. There is no magic third approach which leads to peace, no matter how many times you've been fed that lie by charlatans.
It just shows how poorly understood Ukraine actually is. I spent a few months there, and once you meet some Ukrainians you realize that they will never stop fighting for their freedom. I overheard a heated argument about politics. I don’t speak Ukrainian well enough to understand the specifics but tempers flared and voices were raised. The whole time, every single person kept their hands busy, peeling vegetables to make food for soldiers. It really struck me. Whatever else they disagreed about, they were united in doing their bit to defend their country and their people. This war will end when Ukraine is free and whole because Ukrainians will settle for nothing less. #SlavaUkraïni
@OzKaterji @IAPonomarenko Helping Ukraine win* specifically Which means defeating russia, at the very least inside Ukraine’s borders Where there’s a will there’s a way, but we need the will first
@OzKaterji What ‘foreign policy realists’? This sounds like a self-serving strawman. Most notable realist John Mearsheimer has been at pains to say he thinks a diplomatic outcome unlikely most notably because of irreconcilability of Ukrainian & Russian territorial claims & lack of trust.
@OzKaterji As a realist, the reason it hasn't happened yet is 4 months isn't that long considering the huge amount of weapons we already gave them. And the EU is sending Ukraine money and weapons, which prolongs this into another forever war.
@OzKaterji You mean the veiled threats not to get involved, or else. Peace is staying strong in the face of adversity. International law is on Ukraine’s and its ally’s side - the fact we are not doing more to uphold intl law and order is capitulating to Putin’s aggression.
@OzKaterji @J_Bloodworth A more positive view is that UKR is still holding its own as Europe collectively and individually builds itself up to replace the need for US backing. I think a lot of European capitals are already working on a post US leadership worldview. JEDI is a very clear sign of this.
@OzKaterji What I don't understand is what was it about Republicans that first tempted them not to inconvenience their paymaster? It's a riddle, wrapped in a conundrum, obscured by an enigma, tangled in a puzzle, and covered in mystery.
@OzKaterji The US fizzled out as it did with Syria. But this one will have even bigger consequences
@OzKaterji The US and the UK do not want Ukraine to win. It’s simple
