Southwark, where the FGM-promoting first lady of Sierra Leone has her council home, has the highest risk of FGM in the UK. ▪️10.4% of girls born to mums who've had FGM [2016] ▪️4% of ALL women in Southwark had FGM [2022] "Diaspora and migrant parents face overwhelming cultural and social pressures" to perform FGM - mainly those from Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Somalia. Southwark council expends energy and funds on coproduced community work to combat 'support for the practice' of FGM. Very hard for the council to achieve via workshops when it also gives pro-FGM political elite a base in the community.

This is a very good example of why the Assisted Dying Bill is so dangerous. Coercive and Controlling behaviour is hard to spot. Victims are used to hiding what is happening to them because they have been threatened not to disclose.
