Good Morning!
Futures are looking relatively flat again this morning, with ES +4 and NQ -27.
The memory and chip stocks are weaker this morning after $AVGO sold off on earnings, and the software sector is showing some strength after $SNOW skyrocketed on earnings.
Oil prices continue to climb, with WTI crude around $92 per barrel this morning as tensions between the U.S. and Iran remain elevated following the latest exchange of strikes.
$TSLA is leading the Mag 7 this morning. They are holding a private invite-only event in Austin, Texas today to launch their Cybercab. Any good news that comes out of that can lift the stock.
$AVGO is down 3% despite reporting a strong Q3 beat, as investors focused on Q4 revenue guidance of $34.8B, which came in slightly below expectations of $35.0B.
Shares recovered somewhat during the earnings call after CEO Hock Tan provided a much stronger outlook for Broadcom’s AI business.
Tan raised FY26 AI semiconductor revenue guidance to $58B from $56B and said Broadcom has secured enough supply to support approximately $115B in AI revenue in FY27 and $230B in FY28.
That would represent nearly 4x growth in just two years from FY26 levels.
He also noted that AI demand is already running ahead of Broadcom’s 2027 plan.
Despite the massive long term AI growth outlook, the investors are hard to impress.
With expectations for $AVGO already extremely high, even a strong quarter and significantly higher future AI revenue projections haven’t been enough to push the stock higher.
$SNOW is up 24% after reporting a strong Q2 beat and a full year product revenue raise to $6.07B from $5.84B, with accelerating growth tied to AI products. The earnings bar on these software names is much lower than it is on the AI chip stocks.
$DDOG is up 6% and it’s moving with $SNOW. It’s their closest software peer in the AI data/observability basket, so it trades the same enterprise spend on AI infrastructure software.
$AVAV is up 6% on a $465M Army contract for LOCUST laser counter-drone systems.
The market will be paying attention to the initial jobless claims which is due this morning before the bell, and tomorrow we'll get the August Jobs Report.
