Why create a separate database user for Moodle instead of using root? Because if Moodle, or a plugin, ever hits a SQL injection bug, the blast radius should be one database, not the whole database server. Least privilege is not paranoia. It’s incident math. #moodle

Moodle permissions, translated: Code: 755 dirs, 644 files: “Readable by all. Writable only by root.” moodledata: 700 dirs, 600 files: “www-data only. Everyone else: keep walking.”. Uploads, caches and sessions live there, so moodledata stays private and outside the web root.
