If you give credit to everyone with pretty much no entry barrier (5% down payment), people will have a lot more money to spend on a house. It may feel like the price of houses are going up, but it’s really your purchasing power going down. The banks are in on it, they know they would be bailed out (at the taxpayers expense) if a crisis occurs.
