The most valuable part of Codex CLI 0.138.0 is that it starts closing the gap between CLI and Desktop. 🧩/app is back: 1. Native CLI on macOS and Windows can jump straight into Codex Desktop. 2. Windows workspaces can now launch directly into Desktop too. For heavy users, this matters. Every avoided context switch is one less chance to lose flow. 💥4 practical improvements: 1. Local image paths are passed to the model more reliably. 2. Reasoning effort priority is clearer. 3. Plugin add/remove/marketplace now supports structured JSON. 4. App-server can read token usage and supports v2 PAT. 🧐Bug fixes are also meaningful: 1. /goal edit no longer submits too early when pasting multiple lines. 2. Idle auto-turns no longer accidentally enter Plan mode. 3. Forked threads preserve custom user titles. 4. TUI streaming output, cancelled prompt cursor behavior, and config-write failure messages all got cleaned up. ⚡️Performance also feels better: 1. TUI startup does less duplicate plugin work. 2. resume --last uses the state DB, making large-history recovery faster. 3. MCP/Ollama streams, long message histories, and SQLite contention were optimized. 🌟The best updates are often the ones you do not notice immediately. Use it for a few days, and the small stalls, interruptions, and rough edges simply show up less often. That is usually the real sign a tool is getting better.
