The Vetus Dominium Club is honored to announce our upcoming event, the East Coast Forum 2026: Nil Desperandum. "Never Despair." Virginia has never been defined by a single generation, but by a long succession of men who accepted the responsibilities of their own age. From the uncertain days of the first colonial settlements, where a fragile foothold became the foundation of a new civilization, to the generation that declared independence and secured the liberties upon which our nation was built, each era demanded courage equal to its challenges. The trials did not end there. During the War between the States, Virginians endured hardship that tested the endurance of families, communities, and institutions. In the generations that followed, the Commonwealth entered an age of industrialization, reform, and sweeping social change. The Progressive Era brought new opportunities alongside new questions about the relationship between government, community, and the individual. Each age presented its own uncertainties, yet every generation was called to preserve what was best from the past while preparing for the future. Today, we stand in another such moment. The challenges before us are different in form, but familiar in principle. Every generation inherits both the blessings and burdens left by those who came before. Whether those inheritances are strengthened or diminished depends upon the character, wisdom, and perseverance of those entrusted with them. The East Coast Forum exists to bring together men who recognize that responsibility. Friends and members of Old Glory Club chapters from across the country will gather for an evening of fine dining, fellowship, and thoughtful discussion centered on the principles that have shaped our civilization and the work required to preserve them for generations yet unborn. More than a series of speeches, the forum is an opportunity to meet accomplished men from a variety of professions, exchange ideas, build lasting friendships, and strengthen a growing network committed to service, leadership, and the cultivation of enduring institutions. There are moments in history when the future appears uncertain. Yet history also teaches that civilizations are renewed not by despair, but by men who refuse to surrender to it. That is the meaning of Nil Desperandum. We hope you will join us in the Commonwealth where so many defining chapters of American history were written, and add your own chapter to the story still being told. What to expect: On October 17, 2026, join us in the greater Charlottesville area for a full day of fellowship starting at noon and ending late in the evening. Lunch and dinner will be provided by event caterers.
