iPhone 17 Pro 4x/8x can’t beat the Galaxy S25 Ultra at 5x/10x, almost 2-year-old Samsung flagship. 😬
I was considering trading my OPPO Find X9 Ultra for the iPhone 18 Pro/Max to test it.
Then I saw this Auto Mode comparison against the S25 Ultra.
If Apple keeps the same 4x telephoto approach on iPhone 18 Pro, that would be a huge disappointment for me.
Apple needs to bring more to the table. 📸
Comparison: 8x ,10x below 4x and 5x

Lets talk about Samsung for a minute.
They used to be the trend setter. They were the one to make innovative new designs and trends, like the Galaxy S8's button less display, or the Galaxy Fold's exciting new form factor. Not just hardware, software too. What they did in the early days of One UI is something I'll always admire. The attention to detail, and care for the user experience.
But as of late, that trend is shifting. Samsung are following trends, not setting them. Oh there's a thin phone coming, we've got a thing phone too. Oh there's a passport fold coming, we've got one too. Oh you have a camera plateau? We've got one too.
At first, this could've been a dud, with the Buds3 series and the Watch Ultra. And the internal repremands suggested as much. But it's clear this is the direction Samsung want to take going forward, given the recent S27 Ultra leaks. And it's one I'm not a fan of.
What makes things difficult is that there's still a lot to love about Samsung. I love One UI, even with it's questionable moves. I love Samsung's hardware, especially their recent foldables. Their ecosystem is second only to Apple in strength, with a wide range of IoT devices in their arsenal.
But it's hard to love a brand that doesn't love themselves. That isn't proud of their own work, and decides to ape their competition instead.
People have called me biased towards Samsung, because of my job or the devices I own. And while there's no avoiding that subconscious bias, it also puts me in the best position to critique them, on their many flaws.
Samsung, remember who you are, and what got you to where you are today. Don't lose that.
Here’s why you can’t simply match ISO + shutter speed between the Galaxy S26 Ultra and OPPO Find X9 Ultra in RAW. 👀
Look at the exposure difference:
1️⃣ Galaxy S26 Ultra 5× Virtual Reflector
ISO 320 • 1/17s
2️⃣ OPPO Find X9 Ultra 5× Master Mode
ISO 320 • 1/15s → Yet it’s significantly darker.
3️⃣ OPPO Find X9 Ultra 5× Master Mode Auto ISO 1000 • 1/20s
Same scene. Similar shutter speed. Same ISO in 1 and 2 But completely different exposure.
That’s exactly why RAW comparisons need more than just matching the numbers.
