🚨 Today, the Italian Parliament votes on whether to discuss amendments to their agreement with Libya. Unless canceled by Nov 2, the Italy-Libya Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will automatically renew in Feb 2026. We must not let that happen. Here's why. ⬇️
‼️The Italy–Libya Memorandum of Understanding leads to the daily rape, torture, detention, enslavement, and killing of thousands of people. By early November, this agreement will be automatically renewed by the Italian and Libyan governments — both of which are, and will continue to be, responsible for this suffering. In October 2021, we took to the streets of Tripoli to denounce this shameful agreement and show the world its true impact on us: people on the move, migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. ⛔️ We won’t stop until this Memorandum is abolished and all those responsible are brought to justice!
A mother gave birth on that oil platform in the Mediterranean! When even pregnant people risk that live threatening sea crossing, it means the land they fled from is more dangerous than the water. We demand #safepassage for all!

The mass and arbitrarily arrests of refugees across Tripoli and other parts of Libya is alarming. Many have been killed or wounded in the operations. Since a few days there has been a rise in hate speech and racial discrimination against Black communities in Libya, which has culminated in public calls for mass expulsion and violence. This incitement is particularly evident in the campaign promoting the so-called "Friday for the Expulsion of Africans from Libya," scheduled for Friday, March 14, 2025. Such calls constitute a blatant violation of human rights principles and a dangerous provocation of violence and racial discrimination, in clear contradiction with both domestic laws and international conventions that criminalize racial discrimination and hate speech.
