The literature on #RichardNixon is at once exhaustive and exhausting. One can build a house out of all the books on the man’s life, his presidency, the war in Vietnam, and Watergate. Ever and always, Watergate. If your core knowledge of “the Watergate scandal” derives from Woodward & Bernstein and the Washington Post, please deprogram yourself with these essential titles: - Silent Coup, Len Colodny - Secret Agenda, @jimhougan - The Strong Man, @JamesRosenTV - Scorpions’ Dance, @jeffersonmorley - The Truth About Watergate, @Nick__Bryant
@timfattig Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein have black belts in mendacity. They told numerous lies during their Watergate reportage. But what amazes me is that they lie when they don't even need to lie. I can't discern whether they're serial or pathological liars?
@Nick__Bryant The lies are out there, and they’re being assessed more openly as the MSM grasp on public narrative continues to weaken. Even Ben Bradlee was to speak of the “residual fear in [his] soul” that many of Woodward’s claims were not “quite straight.”
@timfattig Ben Bradlee was attempting to protect his legacy, because he surmised that the levy would invariably break. He, too, had a black belt in mendacity. Deborah Davis will attest to Bradlee's mendacity: He attempted to destroy her, because she elucidated his connection to the CIA.
