The focus of many SMBs over the past decade has been digitizing processes with ready-made software. It’s been huge… BUT… AI and low code will flip this predominant vertical SaaS model upside down by enabling faster, easier, and cheaper fully bespoke tool creation without the maintenance headaches custom software used to have. Instead of picking and adopting vertical SaaS (example: ServiceTitan), the differentiating strategy will be to pick more flexible and open ecosystem toolsets and build software that executes precisely the process and user experience you want. We started this 7+ years ago but our iteration cycles have gotten lightning fast and our capabilities and performance have expanded massively in the last 2-3 years. The beneficiaries will be the companies that build the toolsets that are the most capable and open - I’m talking about @zapier @appsheet @glideapps @Replit @airtable share.descript.com/view/W1RE3Y5ZR…
@NickHaschka Maintenance wont go away. But i totally agree on the opportunity. I build a custom app for processing customer work orders at a business i have. It was awesome. In the medium term it will create a ton of chaos. Then it will get organized.
@NickHaschka Any security concerns with this strategy? That has been the main push back I've heard about this new world order of AI.
@NickHaschka I see this as true for a segment of SMB owners. Others will gladly pay for outsourced SaaS. Many others will see the opportunity & build themselves into a technical debt nightmare. The trick is knowing which one you are… I do expect open APIs to be a SaaS ticket to play now 🎉
