When you encounter others on a trail, offer a friendly “hello” or a nod. This helps create a friendly atmosphere. If you approach a trail user from behind, announce yourself in a friendly, calm tone. Yelling “that chipmunk stole my car keys, run for your lives” is not helpful.
Proper hiking etiquette helps instill respect for other trail users, and it promotes stewardship of the land. Find more tips at: nps.gov/articles/hikin…
@NatlParkService So when I encounter a mountain lion or bear on a trail I am supposed to be friendly and say hello. Good advice, thanks.
@NatlParkService @molliekatie What if the pine martin stole my cheese?
@NatlParkService so its fine if i run past real fast and yell bear?
@NatlParkService It's always "Hello" and an awkward smile that ends up looking like this 😆
