“I consider a woman who brings a child every two years as more profitable than the best man of the farm. what she produces is an addition to the capital, while his labors disappear in mere consumption.” — Thomas Jefferson (TW: descriptions of abuse/assault) As we close #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, American history is essential context for understanding many the health disparities we still see playing out with Black mothers and pregnancies today. 🎥 @theGrio 📕 Source: “Killing The Black Body” by Dorothy Roberts/ “Weathering” explained by Dr. @uche_blackstock
@NatashaSAlford You seem to not be able to understand the phrase "more profitable than the best man", this indicates a pregnant Black woman would be valued and protected at all costs and the best of care would be given for child birth. If history is an essential context, that is the context.
