The Palermo Cathedral in Sicily was built over the site of a 9th century mosque that existed when Sicily was under Muslim rule. The far left column at the entrance contains an inscribed verse of the Quran (Surah Al-A'raf:54). The column was likely reused from the original mosque

This is the small mehrab (prayer niche) that is inside the rear part of the enclosed Sacred Chamber in Masjid-e-Nabwi, Madinah. It's in this area, where late at night the Prophet (ﷺ) would perform the tahajjud prayer.

The Great Mosque of Algiers (aka Djamaa El-Djazair) in Algeria. Located by the Mediterranean coastline, the structure boasts the world’s tallest minaret, measuring 265 metres (869ft). The mosque is capable of hosting 120,000 worshippers, making it the largest in Africa.

The ruins of the Muhammad bin Qasim mosque in the city of Sukkur, Sindh, #Pakistan. Muhammad bin Qasim (ra) was a military commander who led the Muslim conquest of Sindh during the Umayyad campaigns in India. The mosque is believed to have been built in his honour after 712 CE.

Masjid al-Ghamama (circled) is located about 300m south-west of Masjid-e-Nabwi. It is built on the site where the Prophet (ﷺ) performed the Eid salah during the last years of his life. The mosque is situated outside what was the main populated part of Madinah at the time.

The first mosque built in Canada. The Al Rashid Mosque, in Edmonton (Alberta), was opened in 1938 by the local Arab community of the time. The effort to establish the mosque and raise the funding was largely led by a woman, Hilwie Hamdon, who was from present day Lebanon.

This is the front view inside the Sacred Chamber, the burial place of the Prophet (ﷺ) and the first two Caliphs in Masjid-e-Nabwi, Madinah. From left to right, the circles on the ground line up directly to the faces of the Prophet (ﷺ) , Abu Bakr (r.a.) and Umar (r.a.).

The revolutionary Che Guevara visiting the tomb of Salahuddin Ayyubi during his visit to Damascus in 1959. Salahuddin died in 1193, less than 6 years after liberating Jerusalem and Masjid al-Aqsa from the Crusaders.

Historic photo of the house of Kulthum ibn al-Hadm (رضي الله عنه) that was located at the front of the existing Masjid Quba in Madinah. It's where the Prophet (ﷺ) first stayed after making the Hijrah from Makkah. He (ﷺ) then moved to central Madinah.

In July 1927 a severe earthquake hit Jerusalem killing 130 people. About 300 buildings were damaged, including Masjid al-Qibly on the south side of Masjid al-Aqsa. This photo show the extent of the damage as a result of the roof partially collapsing.

Masjid Abdul Gafoor, in the area of Little India in Singapore. The original mosque on the site was built in 1907 by South Indian merchants and Indonesian horse workers who worked at a nearby racecourse. It's named after Shaykh Abdul Gafoor, one of the original trustees.

The mihrab (prayer niche) in Masjid-e-Nabwi which marks the area where the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) lead the salah. This was after the Qiblah was changed (624 CE) from Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem to the Ka'bah in Makkah. This photo was taken in 1908 during Ottoman rule in Madinah.
