A mini activity is more than an instructional routine (like Turn & Talk) but less than a full period activity. What kinds of mini activities have been working well in your classes? Have you tried it?

So far, I've had success with partner error analysis, mini card sorts / filling in blanks with given pieces, and tomorrow I'm trying a partner activity where students have different questions but will end up with the same answers if they are both correct.

I'm starting to believe in what I'm going to call the "mini activity." In a traditional 45 minute daily class period, what can you ask students to DO that will get them talking, thinking, collaborating, and creating? This is the purpose of the mini activity. #MTBoS #iteachmath

"Traditional" teaching just doesn't make sense to me anymore. Why should teachers put on a performance 5x/day? Students can watch a video of that performance. Class time is better spent with students DOING the work. There is learning in the doing.

We tend to think of As, Bs, Cs, Ds, and Fs as being equally distributed among all possible grades, but they’re really not. Looking at it this way, it not only makes sense to have a minimum grade, it makes me wonder why the passing grade is 65 rather than 60. #MTBoS #iteachmath

Remote learning didn't work for everyone. In person learning didn't work for everyone either. It would be great if @NYCSchools could offer a remote option for students and families that want it.

My sub plans are screencasts. I record a video to say hi to my kids, talk them through what we're doing, etc. The best part is that it takes me so much less time than traditional plans.
