It's hard to convey the excitement of seeing SUPERMAN in the theaters in 1979. There had never really been anything like it. A huge blockbuster superhero movie that seemed fully grounded in our world. Even in this clip, Donner voices the same sense of wonder from the crowd that the audience feels. And the John Williams score remains my favorite in a career of genius work. The screenwriting is emotional and truthful and breaks your heart as much as exhilarates you. That line, "Who's got you?" killed in theatre. Huge, excited laughs. I am of the stingy age, where there will never be another Superman quite like Christopher Reeve. Equal kudos to Margot Kidder. Add to them the gravitas of Glenn Ford, Gene Hackman, and Marlon Brando. My good goodness, what a feat! I love this movie.
@storyandplot you and me both, brother. It's on my personal GOAT list.
