Walmart's check-out machines have allegedly been inflating the weight of groceries. The corporate giant is settling a class-action lawsuit accusing them of overcharging for food. The suit claims they inflate food weight, mislabel produce, and more.
Walmart is settling for $45 million. "The lawsuit alleged Walmart falsely inflated the weight of certain grocery items, mislabelled the weight of bagged produce and overcharged for sold-by-weight clearance products, thereby forcing customers to pay more for them than their lowest advertised price." just-food.com/newsletters/wa…
@MorePerfectUS Walmart also has the lowest prices of any grocer in the country, so there is that.
@MorePerfectUS Can’t download the tiktok but this lady went to Walmart, sticker says chicken is 4.78 lbs (which should be tare w/o packaging), but she weighs it w/ packaging and it’s TOTAL 2.22 lb. Should be 4.78 + packaging weight. She repeats for a 2nd package too tiktok.com/t/ZTLfs113C/
@MorePerfectUS The greed of Walmart knows no bounds! A report “…found that a single Walmart Supercenter cost taxpayers between $904,542 and $1.75 million per year, or between $3,015 and $5,815 on average for each of 300 workers.” The government needs to take some of their profits back!🤬
@MorePerfectUS $2 million fine and slap on the wrist for $6.5 Billion worth of honest mistakes.
@MorePerfectUS This was proven at my local Wal-Mart too. Someone went to the meat counter, got a specific weight of meat. Went to the checkout, and the machine weighed it out at about 50% more than the actual weight they got. Did the same thing with vegetables and saw the same happening.
@MorePerfectUS This is why I have zero care about people who steal from big box stores.
@MorePerfectUS And they are requiring receipts to file a claim. Seriously, who keeps their Walmart receipts for produce from years ago?
@MorePerfectUS If corporations are legally people why aren’t the CEOs being arrested for fraud and theft? Grand theft over X amount etc would be appropriate @FBI
@MorePerfectUS In the end, they will pay a “huge” fine if $2 million dollars and promise to stop, after generating $50 million in excess profit.
