Lyft announces it is "shutting down operations in Minneapolis" and Uber will "stop operating...in the entire metro area including the airport" after the city passed a minimum wage for rideshare drivers. Companies that rely on paying poverty wages simply should not exist.
As we've covered, the rideshare giants are taking an ever-larger share of ride fares while keeping drivers in the dark about pay. They're trying to make an example of the worker power on display in Minneapolis by crushing it relentlessly. x.com/moreperfectus/…

@MorePerfectUS If only there were some other way for Uber to spend a 7 billion dollar share buy back...
@MorePerfectUS Unions protect workers by putting them out of a job? Go pick berries on the farms instead?
@MorePerfectUS Opens the door for an ethical business owner to get a lot of business in Minneapolis. See ya gone bye don't let the door hit ya in the ass.
@MorePerfectUS Billionaires billionairing.
@MorePerfectUS Nothing to do with overall compensation. Has to do with incentivizing picking up rides, flexible schedules, surge presence of drivers during peak customer hours.
@MorePerfectUS Yep. If you can't pay decent living wages your business plan isn't feasible as a for profit entity. Shareholders shouldn't be entitled to profits if the basic necessities of the labor force aren't being met.
@MorePerfectUS How does Uber and Lyft leaving help the drivers that lose their income? Why not let drivers decide if it’s worth it for them to drive or not? Are you aware that losing your entire income is worse than having an income that sustains you, even if it is not your ideal income?
@MorePerfectUS Looks like an opportunity for a worker co-op.
