In 2013, inmate Joshua Silverman placed a 911 call after two fellow prisoners he was being transported with hijacked the vehicle and fled. The vehicle had been left unattended outside a hospital in Weatherford, Oklahoma, with keys in the ignition. However, instead of fleeing himself, Silverman chose to contact the police. The two Inmates that escaped were Lester Burns and Michael Coleman. They were recaptured shortly after.
The escape incident took place on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. The van was operated by the Prison Transport Service (PTS), a private company that claims to be the largest prisoner extradition company in the United States. The van was transporting eight prisoners to their respective destinations in different states. The guards had taken two men inside the hospital for treatment, leaving the keys in the van with the engine running. This is when Lester Burns and Michael Coleman decided to seize the opportunity. Burns and Coleman managed to kick down a partition that separated the prisoners from the cab of the van. They drove the van for about a mile before turning off the road and continuing their escape on foot. After they left, Silverman, who was still shackled, moved to the front seat, found a cellphone, and called 911. His call helped the police pinpoint the location of Burns and Coleman, leading to their capture later the same day. The incident raised concerns about how PTS conducts its business. The company is governed by minimal federal guidelines and is required to notify local law enforcement only if they have a scheduled stop in that state. They are also required to conduct background checks and on-the-job training of its employees. However, there is little accountability for the company, and no agency is specifically tasked with monitoring them. This incident highlighted the need for stricter regulations and oversight of prisoner transportation companies.
@Morbidful 911: 911, what’s your emergency? JS: You are not going to believe this! bit.ly/PearUS
@Morbidful Won’t HE be popular back in jail! Prisoner calls 911 to report two other inmates escaping after they hijacked a van he was being transported in.
@Morbidful She saved his life and he did the right thing God bless them both
@Morbidful Are all 911 operators condescending jerks?
@Morbidful They are heroes without capes! Women can get ready very quickly whenever they want! 😂
In 2012, Choi Gap-bok escaped from prison by squeezing his body through the food slot at the bottom of his cell door. The slot measured 5.9 inches tall and 17.7 inches wide. Choi, a yoga practitioner, applied skin ointment to his body and slipped out while 3 prison guards were sleeping.
@Morbidful He should been given a lighter sentence, depending on his offense of course.
