I suspect one reason Chinese diaspora seem to be esp resentful (and obsessive) over China, is b/c they feel left out of China's rise. There is much copium realizing that Chinese Americans are the outer fringe of the Sinosphere, esp culturally alienated/illiterate Chinese.
There's a major psychological disturbance I think, in that a lot of the most committed Sinophobes among us, are also the ones who have made China the center of their lives. Asian Studies people. Foreign relations people. China cultural/political commentators. China obsessed.
@Mont_Jiang No, it's because they know how badly the Maoists treated them which forced them to leave, and how successful they became in a much fairer but not perfect Western free mkt democracy. Based on these two points, their position is understandable.
@Mont_Jiang What if I can’t patronize my poor Chinese cousins anymore?
@Mont_Jiang What about the Chinese diaspora that love China and make it a positive part of their lives (ie: business, entertainment, tech, etc.)? I know many of these, including myself
@Mont_Jiang Asian people in the US, including Indians, Middle Easterns as well as East Asians, grew up self-conscious of their ethnicity and most yearn to be white or at least, accepted into mainstream white society. This was my experience, at least.
@Mont_Jiang @moghilemear13 These are the same people in the West who allowed themselves to be culturally genocided (in the name of assimilation to be a good minority) who actually believe the propaganda that China does cultural genocide.
