Finally: Google has enabled display output on a Pixel phone for the first time! With Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2, you can mirror your Pixel 8's screen to an external display, as Google has finally enabled DisplayPort Alternate Mode. More details below👇 androidauthority.com/google-pixel-8…
By the way, if you're wondering what dock I'm using in those photos, it's the Miraxess Miradock. It's quite the capable dock! It has two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, 1 SD/TF card reader, a 3.5mm port, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, 1 HDMI port, 1 USB-C PD port, and two USB-C input ports (the front for your phone and the rear for any other device). The founder of Miraxess is a big believe in using your phone as a desktop, and he was kind enough to loan me a Miradock so I can continue reporting on Android's desktop mode changes, so thanks! miraxess.com/devices/mirado…
@MishaalRahman Got any idea if this will be possible with the Pixel 7 Pro?
@MishaalRahman The major advantage to desktop mode and HDMI out from the phone - with both you are using only your regular data allotment, you don't have to dip into your hotspot tethering data allotment. If you play to TV with Chromecast, you are using hotspot data.
@MishaalRahman But still doesn't look as good as Samsung DEX
@MishaalRahman This was the only reason I bought a s23 ultra instead of a pixel phone as I use the display output a lot on both my phone and tablet.
@MishaalRahman Why not wirelessly like Samsung Smart View?
@MishaalRahman Interesting...Is there some demo on line?
@MishaalRahman "It’s possible that Google will launch Android’s revamped desktop mode experience in Android 15 alongside the upcoming Pixel 9 series, but we don’t know for sure." And the Pixel Tablet 2/Pro; I hope that this year's IO will feature lots of talk, and demo, of desktop mode.
