Preferably ALM or higher I do talks on our job and always make this point about the experience reqd. You're not just scouting a location, you're scouting taking a whole film shoot there

@CTMillion @MillennialLM I hear you. I too had many a 4 to 5 a.m. alarm clock, and hated it. Once I was up and in the car, fine, but the transition from deep sleep to "Oh fuck ... the alarm" was always ugly. Just one more reason I'm happy to be retired.
@hollywoodjuicer @MillennialLM I still have 6 or 6:30AM calls regularly, which means rising between 4 and 5 depending on the location. After three days of it, I’m practically dead, as I am decidedly NOT a morning person.
@MillennialLM I once had a two a.m. call to shoot in a foundry, because the plant operated at night to take advantage of lower electric rates and did their last pour at 6:00 a.m. That was ugly. On the bright side, we wrapped before noon, but by then I was a zombie.
@MillennialLM It's a thankless job. Only once did I envy a LM - while doing a feature in a small North Carolina town. He got there weeks before 1st Unit, and soon had all the cute local girls swooning over the Mr. Big from Hollywood. i have to give him credit, though - he made the most of it!

Listen, if the movie you're PAing on doesn't have a filming permit, whatever, that's the production's problem. But if they don't have a permit to use guns or explosives or any kind of stuntwork and they're planning on doing it anyway? You walk the fuck away.
@RWWFilm He doesn't even own it outright, but in partnership with a pod. And yes, he's bilking the studio for all he can get, including his personal horses, cattle, and staff to manage them. He also trains actors to be cowboys there, for a fee.
@belesstupid In general, I'm not a fan of anything that feels like "taking advantage of the system to enrich yourself". Like a CEO who owns a private jet, and then leases it to the company to fly him around. Just b/c it's not illegal doesn't make it right. Just my personal approach. YMMV.
I just heard that a certain writer everyone is chatting about bought a huge ranch - and then just happens to write ~70 different shows set on a ranch, which he conveniently rents out to the studio for filming the shows they've paid him to write? Is that right?
