If you were ever on a team that ended the season the way Auburn did you'd understand. Couple of summers ago on vacation my wife and I had dinner with a couple from Lubbock that I know. The man had married one of my sister's best friends. He also had played on a high school football team that went 10-1 and beat the team I was on 44-6. But their season ended on a stunning first round playoffs loss. That night at dinner I talked a lot about my senior year, the games we lost and the games we won. I mentioned a lot of my teammates and how several of us are still close. He never said a word about his team. As we were getting ready to leave I suggested to him quietly, "It still hurts doesn't it?" "You have no idea," he responded. His team had the talent to win a state championship but as he said to me, "we won the same number of post season games as you guys. NONE!"

@MikeIrwinPTN That’s all true but completely irrelevant to how bad arkansas’ season was and the relative success of the other programs this year.
@MikeIrwinPTN I filled out 3 brackets and I had Auburn winning both of them
@MikeIrwinPTN My senior year 1969 we were really good in basketball. I was the leading scorer all state etc. But I don’t remember anything but the last game where I was 2 for 20 from the field and we were upset in first round by a team that had no business being in the game. It still hurts
@MikeIrwinPTN I’ll never understand the amount of fans that would rather have regular season success over tournament success. It’s not even a trade off in my opinion.
@MikeIrwinPTN We all have felt what you are saying. The dropped foul ball loss in the CWS hurts far worse than any season we didn’t make it to Omaha.
