What was the most outrageous lie you believed as a child?
@kelly_ques That hiding under a desk at school would prevent injury if the Russians dropped an H Bomb in the schoolyard.
@MidniteOil55 @kelly_ques I remember those days. When I was in high school, I realized the school was only 5 miles from an Air Force base. So it wouldn't have made a difference.
@MidniteOil55 @kelly_ques I'm surprised most of us survived the terror of the Cold War without more issues. I remember them telling us that we wouldn't be able to go home to our Mom and Dad and we'd have to stay at school.
@MidniteOil55 @kelly_ques That was NEVER taught. It was to protect from falling rubble if the building was damaged by the shockwave from a blast many miles away.
@MidniteOil55 @kelly_ques I don’t think anything could ever top that. That was a monthly drill too
@MidniteOil55 @kelly_ques Elementary School in the late 50s early 60s
@MidniteOil55 @kelly_ques 😀😀 to be fair, those desks ar JHS 73 in Maspeth, Queens were made of lead. Saved you from nuclear fallout, but poisoned you over time.
