One of the things that frustrates me about the current debate around social media/smartphones/mental health is that it's very often framed as "alarmist who wants action NOW" vs "out-of-touch critic who only cares about 'data' & wants to wait for the evidence". This is incorrect.

Only 22 of the 476 studies in @JonHaidt’s new book contain data on either heavy social media use or serious mental issues among adolescents, and none have data on both.
This is a really thoughtful post, and considers an often-lost voice in this whole debate: teenagers themselves.

One of the things that frustrates me about the current debate around social media/smartphones/mental health is that it's very often framed as "alarmist who wants action NOW" vs "out-of-touch critic who only cares about 'data' & wants to wait for the evidence". This is incorrect.
