@wsbgnl The use of absolutist "maximized" language like "eliminate all risk" or "stay in your house forever" or "waiting until things are perfectly safe" are a specific type of false equivalency. Does anyone know if there is a rhetorical term for it?

@herong I study/teach that English (and other langs.) promote this immutability with semantic "permanence." English speakers often seem to refer to behaviors as near-permanent labels rather than in the context of a particular cultural space-time. Korzybski 101, haha! Science and Sanity.

@RMB2 For me in most situations: if it isn't a quantitative statement with citations, then it is an opinion with an attempt to persuade. Persuasion is a form of manipulation. So, in that way, I presume nearly everyone is a manipulator. Not in a bad way, though!

@brfaucette @david_arditi I am in the entrepreneur space right now and, there, SAAS - software as a subscription - seems to be the "most desired" business model. This model may tie into the thesis of "unending consumption" because you pay every month, but you never really own the commodity.

@web I was just listening to Asimov talking to Moyers about computer-based education as a private school for every child. It's time for re-evaluating universities and libraries as media. Their roles of cataloguing and transporting the knowledge of humankind are due for an upgrade.

@MSNBC @kavitapmd I think we need new media for 21st century academic and scientific communication. Peer-reviewed sites may replace journal articles. Peer-reviewed tweets, "citations required" standards on some subReddits and so on. Make them easy to share and easy to research.
