@HistorianUSA1 Same happened to my wife and I. Tried to pay the huge Costco bill on 2 cards (1 mine and 1 hers) and they made a big fuss. So I made a much bigger fuss at the returns counter. Told them we will cancel our membership if this bullshit ever happens again.

La izquierda habla de derechos todo el día. Derecho a la vivienda, derecho a la salud, derecho al trabajo, derecho a la educación. Pero nadie pregunta lo más básico ¿qué es un derecho? Porque si eso no está claro, todo lo que viene después es humop. Un derecho genuino es un reclamo que no requiere la acción forzada de otro. Es una protección contra la agresión, no un título para extraer el tiempo, el trabajo o la propiedad ajena. Los derechos no existen en el vacío, existen sobre bienes escasos. Si algo no es escaso, no necesita ser asignado mediante derechos de propiedad, porque usarlo no priva a nadie de su uso. Una idea, una fórmula matemática, un método, no son escasos en ese sentido. Pero una casa, un pedazo de tierra, tu tiempo, sí lo son. Y eso significa que alguien tiene que ser el propietario legítimo. La propiedad legítima deriva de dos fuentes, apropiación original mediante el trabajo y transferencia voluntaria. Si encontrás un recurso sin dueño y lo transformás con tu trabajo, es tuyo. Si alguien te lo transfiere voluntariamente mediante intercambio o donación, también es tuyo. Eso es todo. No hay tercera vía que no implique tomar por la fuerza lo que otro produjo, transformó o adquirió. Ahora aplicá eso a los llamados derechos sociales y mirá lo que pasa. El derecho a la vivienda no es un derecho, es una transferencia forzada con vocabulario moral. Alguien tiene que construir esa vivienda, alguien tiene que pagarla, alguien tiene que mantenerla. No importa si el Estado paga con impuestos o si obliga directamente al constructor, la cadena siempre termina en la misma coacción. Los impuestos no son una contribución voluntaria, son una extracción bajo amenaza. Y esa extracción se hace sobre el tiempo y el trabajo de alguien que no consintió financiar el consumo ajeno. El argumento no es que la vivienda o la salud no sean valiosas. Obviamente lo son. El argumento es que su valor no las convierte en derechos, porque un derecho que requiere la servidumbre parcial de otro no es un derecho. Es un privilegio institucionalizado a expensas de quien lo financia sin consentimiento. Y si alguien dice que la sociedad puede decidir colectivamente qué es un derecho, entonces está admitiendo que los derechos no son descubiertos, son inventados. Que no son protecciones inherentes, son concesiones políticas sujetas a mayorías transitorias. Y si eso es cierto, entonces no hay ningún principio que detenga la expansión infinita de esos derechos. Hoy es vivienda, mañana es vacaciones pagas, pasado es un ingreso garantizado. Todo financiado con la misma lógica, alguien más tiene que pagarlo. Los derechos genuinos no cuestan nada, porque solo requieren que otros se abstengan de agredirte. No requieren presupuesto, ni burocracia, ni recaudación forzada. Requieren únicamente que el resto no te toque. Todo lo demás es redistribución con nombre bonito.

The argument only works by redefining “earn” to exclude large scale value creation from the start. If millions voluntarily buy your products or invest in your company, wealth can absolutely be earned through trade at scale. AOC jumps from: “Some rich people abuse power” to “No billionaire earned their wealth.” That doesn’t follow. By that logic: • no worker earns high pay because some commit fraud • no politician earns votes because some are corrupt And “paid less than they’re worth” according to whom? In a voluntary market, value is negotiated, not mystically declared by politicians. Ironically, this argument applies far more cleanly to political power: “You didn’t earn authority over millions of people who never consented.
