Hear me out, collegiate swimming should introduce a decathlon style event for dual meets.
Each team puts one swimmer in 10 events. The results are benchmarked to the NCAA record and only the overall winner receives meet points.
Could be fun to watch, especially in close meets.
Some of my favorite moments of sportsmanship @Paris2024 so far:
- Biles and Chiles bow to Andrade on the podium
- Ledecky thanks Titmus for making her better
- Kendricks and Karalis leading the chants for Duplantis
From an individual perspective in finals (continued):
- Bernard (France) anchored a 46.83 in finals (the fourth man to split under 47 seconds)
- Lezak (USA) anchored the fastest split ever at 46.06, 2.50% faster than the WR (the third man to split under 47 seconds)
From an individual perspective in finals:
- Sullivan (Australia) broke the WR leading off finals in 47.24
- Phelps (USA) broke the NR leading off finals in 47.51
- Bousquet (France) split the second fastest leg ever in finals (46.64), swimming third
and
We may never again see another swimming race like the Men's 4x100 Meter Freestyle Relay from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
I don't mean that to sound bittersweet. I mean that because, statistically, a lot of boxes need to be checked to recreate that level of excitement.
@Olympics
One of my favorite Olympic stats is @AnthonyErvin has won two individual gold medals in the 50 freestyle, earned 16 years apart (Athens and Rio), by a combined total of 0.01 seconds
There are a lot of reasons I am a fan of Simone Manuel.
She is tough, resilient, humble, and hands-down has the best social handle @swimone#swimtrials24
@RowdyGaines please give me more stats like the total stroke breakdown for Weinstein (147) vs. Ledecky (162) in the 200 freestyle #swimming#olympictrials

Great table! I expanded to add absolute and relative split columns. I don't fully grasp the extensifier piece so my math is off ~0.05 per goal.
Happy to discuss / build other tables if there is a need. Proper data visualization can be powerful.
A visual analysis of the @NCAA D1 basketball tournament seeds.
2024 observations:
- Women: best Sweet 16 since 2008, and one of nine “perfect” finals since 2001
- Men: an “above average” Final Four, but finished with one of seven “perfect” finals since 2001
#MarchMadness
That was an incredible swim by @leon_marchand in the 500 free.
His time of 4:02.3 breaks his own record by ~1.5%, but equally impressive is he did it with between 5-8 dolphin kicks off every wall.
