ALL staff in the NHS from cleaners to consultant surgeons are heroes and do a vitally important job for our health service. However, the fact that Agenda for Change thinks that an administrator should be paid the same as a staff nurse in charge of a ward (Band 5) is mind-blowing.
@Mayz131 I take your point but I believe a band 5 admin will be the lead or manager for a team as permanent whereas NIC changes each shift. I’ve always thought band 5 being designated NIC was wrong though. Regardless, nurses are woefully underpaid for degree+ qualified professionals.
@Mayz131 And I think it’s really shocking that executive PA’s are typically paid B5, occasionally 6. Difficult posts with huge confidentiality and diplomacy required. I’ve known some brilliant ones.
@Mayz131 I wouldn't compare with admin as I don't understand their jobs/structure well enough but yes, the Band 5 nurse in charge of the shift role is jaw-droppingly underpaid. Thank you for raising this as there really isn't enough awareness.
@Mayz131 I’m really curious about all the people in the responses who say band 5 nurses shouldn’t be routinely in charge of a ward. Of course they should, that’s a huge part of our training. Band 6 nursing is much more than just running a shift, that’s a basic expectation.
@Mayz131 Most Band 5 in our Trust are MDT Coordinators. The NHS England restructured all MDT to band 5 admins .
