I made this new chart showing that more and more countries decoupled economic growth from CO₂ emissions. (Source: ourworldindata.org/co2-and-greenh…)
@MaxCRoser @veaulans I mean it's easy to ignore 1/3 of the world population and arguably the two most rapidly growing economies in order to Create this narrative. in other words it's easy for the rest of the world to decouple when the main industrial engine of the world does all the heavy lifting
@MaxCRoser And nothing happened to the weather at all
@MaxCRoser REALLY helpful. Thank you. Delinking is possible. Degrowth is not needed.
@MaxCRoser Question: Do the exported goods include Nigeria’s oil, Australia’s coal, etc?
@MaxCRoser @paulg Thank you for your work Max :) Amazing !
@MaxCRoser Decoupling is impossible because FFs are still the largest proportion of energy consumption. One problem might be international shipping and travel are not included. Another might be that different countries calculate GDP differently. Also, climate doesn't care about per capita.
