Welcomed changes, indeed: Doing away with costly, burdensome and disruptive asymptomatic testing in schools AND an end to quarantining healthy children. Thanks to @ShiraDoronMD for advocating for the children of MA.
2 big #COVID19 policy changes this week for the children of MA. 1st, an end to the state’s school testing program, which was always a national leader. Now MA will lead in emphasizing symptomatic testing for the purpose of treatment rather than disruptive asymptomatic testing.

So at the end of another school year, w/ vaccines, natural infection & far more knowledge re: this virus, kids STILL bear the brunt. We've always pushed back on restrictions that have trade-offs for children and that aren't evidence-based. When will our leaders join us? /end

What does this mean? It means mandates are not effective or necessary, even when cases are rising. They cause rifts in society for no reason. If you’re high-risk or risk averse, a medical grade mask will protect you as well as it would if others were wearing it too.

The way families and teachers felt comfortable with returning to in-person learning was by returning to in-person learning. The same will apply here. We must practice empathy and compassion, but we cannot let fear drive our policy.
We are MaskChoice Pioneer Valley - an independent volunteer network of concerned residents. We are students, parents and community members asking that local officials lift mask mandates in the schools immediately.
As the Boston Globe’s editorial board wrote in February, in support of Massachusetts schools going mask optional: “For elementary-school-age kids, the pandemic has dominated a fifth, or a quarter, or even a third of their lives. It’s time for them to breathe easier.”
We are not affiliated with any other organizations or political parties.
We are asking that our local schools follow the science and data that has caused that vast majority of schools across the country to drop their mask mandates.
