Myth: If college athletes are paid by schools, they will have no incentive to attend class. Reality: If schools truly want athletes to attend class, they can tie compensation, employment and other benefits to their attendance. This happens today in many forms of employment.
@MarcEdelman Until one athlete gets a competing offer from another school that says they don’t have to attend class at all
@MarcEdelman If they're employees, they don't HAVE to attend class at all. That's the beauty. No more fake classes and degrees for athletes. We can be transparent about what is really going on.
@MarcEdelman I posted this on another site. I worked for 3 of the 4 schools I attended. I knew I had to focus on my studies to be able to graduate which I did.
@MarcEdelman Reality, but most forms of employment before taking the job, aren't in the form of the NLI contract of adhesion. Wonder what DECADE the NCAA with fix that?
@MarcEdelman This is very true! Gonna have to add incentives for specific classes. Lol!
@MarcEdelman They’ll just sue and get some judge to allow them to play and not have to attend class (jk) but not really
@MarcEdelman Or, the athletes will realize that their "value" is almost entirely tied to their affiliation with the school, and decide that having to be a student and 4 or 5 year eligibility limits are things they bargain against. And it could be an issue every bargaining cycle
