Many patients guessed wrongly whether they had open or lap. Some still didn’t know after the scar was revealed!!! Modest short term benefits and no ⬆️ morbidity means that it is reasonable to offer lap if patient wishes but selection is 🔑

The same can’t be said for all major operations. If there are intrinsic advantages to MIS HPB, must at least be as safe. So, I find this exciting!

We know MIS hemihepatectomy is safe & feasible with experienced/high-volume surgeons. Not sure if a 1 day difference in LOS or functional recovery is clinically meaningful and RIOT has not really stood the test of time.
