#SAPSWC #SAPS Provincial Operational Coordination Combat Team conducted an intell driven op early this morning at a flat in Bellville, where they searched a premises and confiscated a significant consignment of firearms. According to preliminary information, the firearms had been transported from KwaZulu-Natal to Cape Town. During the search, the members seized 6 AK-47 rifles and eight 9mm pistols with ammo. The suspects were unable to produce valid firearm licenses or permits for the weapons. 8 Male suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Thoughts on the BELA Act. There are 12.7 million children in the public education system. There are 22 511 public schools across the country. 70% of the public schools are in quintiles one, two and three. These are the township and rural schools. These are the schools plagued by broken infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms and poor quality of teaching. The BELA Act is a fight about suburban schools. It is important to have inclusion in those schools, it is important to have transformation in those schools. Children who live in those areas should not be denied education on the basis of language. However we must not lose sight of the fact that this has been a fight that will not change the plight of those children who swim across rivers to get to school. This fight has not changed the plight of children at the swamp school in Tembisa built by Panyaza Lesufi for R100 million. Our education crisis is bigger than the very important issues of inclusion in these former model C schools. It is worrying that the GNU parties have spent so much energy on this fight while the education budget is being cut, while we just saw the latest TIMSS results where our grade 5 kids placed last in the world in science and maths. This GNU is not serious about fixing education in this country. This GNU does not care that 40% of learners dropout before grade 12. This GNU does not care that less than 30% of those who sit for maths exams get a pass mark of 50% or better. This GNU does not care that classrooms are overcrowded and that we are facing a teacher shortage crisis which is going to get worse as the teachers retire. All of this energy, all the talk about Tintswalo this year and still nothing has changed for Tintswalo, his school continues to fall apart, his teachers continue to struggle with no support and no resources, his dreams continue to be deferred by politicians who do not believe in his potential. We need radical education reform in South Africa. We are falling behind while Elon Musk is sending rockets to space and building humanoid robots. We need radical education reform in South Africa. Sam Altman and others are building AI solutions that are getting more powerful by the day. We need radical education reform in South Africa. China is making cars that are flooding our streets and we are failing to locally manufacture a bicycle. I welcome the BELA Act but it is painfully obvious that this was not a fight for all the children of South Africa. I welcome the BELA Act but this is not enough for the children of South Africa being left behind.
