It was a great run, but a 51 year sportscasting career comes to an end. Thanks to all who played a part along the way, at WJHG Panama City and WLOS Asheville, at Western Carolina U, and at Florida, which was a career changing opportunity with the Gators.

Well after 1 game, we all can see Penda has improved his shooting and physique. Jace was fairly solid with the ball, but still questionable on defense at times. Nelson unfortunately looks headed to Lakeland. But let's see how it pans out over the next few games.

This is an extremely important Summer League for the team. We simply must see a big leap from Jace, and Nelson needs to show us something special. Which is unfair to say to a 2nd round pick, but this is the situation the roster is in, due to contract mismanagement.

Weltman sat on his hands this offseason, mainly due to being hamstrung by trades and contracts he orchestrated. There is no clear path out of this besides hoping for massive internal improvements. Max players are very tough to trade now unless they are elite. See Jalen Brown.

I'm rooting for Nelson to make the rotation. Really interested in if he can make a physical impact in summer league. The best case imo is he can be our version of Isiah Stewart. Not an easy ask, but we need some luck here.

The NBA has become an arms race. You can't sit and run it back year after year & hope things change. The Magic are looking into trades, which is good. Ja and Drn Fox are 2 guys who could turn it around & change a team. Fox for sure - will be interested if Sweeney wants him.

To not be fully negative, Nelson is 6'9 but has a 7'2 wingspan. He can't shoot at all so he can't play the wings for long stretches. He may be able to play the 5 against small lineups. I like energy guys, but its tough to see the path to serious minutes here.

Weltman just can't do the 2nd round. He doesn't have it in him to scout these guys. This is a G league pick, which maybe could possibly be Jamal Cain in a few years. It's a shame becuz these picks are valuable for a capped out team but weltman doesn't seem to grasp this.

Sweeney is highly regarded for his coaching acumen and defensive schemes. I say this because it's 110% certain he knows we have offensive issues and he will build the right staff to address this.

I think ppl assuming ORL would have beaten CLE and marched into the ECF is why this fanbase doesn't get taken seriously. Plus, who cares about making the ECF anyway. The goal should be to build a team that can defeat OKC and SA, and that currently is not close to happening.

@jramseymmo @OMagicGuru @BillSimmons @kirkgoldsberry It's not a horrific trade at all, although trading Franz and Suggs will feel like giving away too much to a lot of the local fanbase who doesn't understand how impactful Murray is. The problem is that it dramatically weakens Orlando's defense.

Murray and Bane as a backcourt would be a ridiculous combo. He also can handle the rock, which saves a lot of Paolo and Franz's energy..

The next coach for the Magic will have to scheme around 2 big wings who can't playmake or shoot, an undersized C and no starting caliber PG on the roster. It's not that appealing of a job to anyone who wants to win championships.
