Had a brief chat with our very level-headed pathologist this morning about the H5N1 situation. She said it's very worrisome and she hopes the CDC is all over this. She's been a pathologist for 30 years. I feel the same way but my confidence in the CDC is at an all time low.
@MLS_Dave As a farm kid whose family has raised cattle for generations and CMLS, I am seriously concerned about the farmers and hands who work daily in these environments. I have more faith and trust in the team at NADL, than the CDC and its pr machine.
@MLS_Dave They’ve given us no reason trust them. Will continue to follow those here who have no political or economic agenda.
@MLS_Dave CBS Morning News just interviewed Dr Celine Gounder on the H5N1 situation. Someone asked her about vaccines for it. I couldn’t help but notice she seemed to stumble over her words trying to answer that question.
@MLS_Dave There's 1 advantage we have in this situation that we don't have with covid - involvement of the Ag industry. Due to another issue, I'm learning firsthand this legislative session exactly how far the Ag industry will go to protect livestock from disease. They'll stop at nothing.
@MLS_Dave I’m not confident in cdc leadership, but they do have a talented flu team. Now is a good time to demand clean indoor air
@MLS_Dave "Hoping CDC is on it..." is something we need the med profession to move from. We are in the phase where professionals who have the knowledge go out and lobby CDC vocally in clear, strong language. Why? Because lives hang in the balance.
@MLS_Dave The good news is that the infected dairy cows are largely recovering and the one detected human case is also recovering with the help of anti-virals. But I imagine this does not preclude the possibility of an outbreak and mutation to more virulent strains.
