What GCC?
First, only two of six GCC nations run annual surpluses, others are in red ink. $300 billion is ginormous.
Second, the Gulf today has a huge problem with the bully Iran and will not help out with a cent of investment.
This money is as imaginary as the Saudi “one trillion” investment in the U.S. economy.
The $300b is coming from the GCC. They'll get the waivers they need as long as that helps ensure they don't have drones through the windows of luxury hotels.
I want to thank the IDF, Mossad and Israel for killing the Hezbollah leaders who have killed so many Americans. Tough, dirty work. America and the world are safer because of your sacrifices.
I don’t see much value in comparing the MOU and the JCPOA. They are fundamentally different agreements that emerged from starkly different contexts. Best to leave that debate to hardline critics of both the 2015 deal and the current understanding, who seem perfectly capable of
The MOU and What Comes Next
The MOU and the subsequent nuclear negotiations can only produce a satisfactory result if the Iranian regime had truly decided to change, as JD Vance claims. I recall hearing almost the exact same thing in 2015 when the Obama administration and its echo chamber were selling the JCPOA.
I recall then Treasury Secretary Jack Lew insisting that Iran only wanted to be part of the international economic system and would invest its windfall in released funds in improving the lives of Iran’s citizens. We know the opposite happened, the regime took the pallets of cash and put it all into its nuclear program, ballistic missiles and especially expanding the regional proxy network. Maybe this time will be different, but I’m skeptical.
Greetings, President Trump,
You may have secured a temporary deal, but you've shaken the trust of almost everyone around you except perhaps JD Vance and Iran's Supreme Leader. Attacking friends who stood with you in wartime while defending an enemy that attacked both of you is how nations stop trusting you, even if they keep smiling for the cameras. The way many of us, including me, see it, Israel is America's biggest ally in the Middle East. Telling Israel not to hit Hezbollah for the sake of a deal with Iran is like telling America not to hit al-Qaeda because you're negotiating with Hamas.
And a deal that lasts only 60 days? That's not diplomacy, that's a ceasefire with an expiry date shorter than a carton of milk.
"I just want to say His Highness is a warrior, he is a very courageous man ," says President Trump in his meeting with UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan
Thank you @POTUS for praising my President
International media is amplifying the Iranian regime perspective and framing things as if Israel is trying to jeopardize a US-Iran deal.
The reality is that Iran is trying to derail a Lebanese-Israeli peace effort.
A deal with Iran must recognize that this regime has no desire to be a responsible member of the community of nations. They do not regret the last 47 years nor think it was a mistake to kill Americans. They are all radical Islamists.
Any funds available to the regime - whether paid to them directly, provided by sanctions relief or via releasing escrowed funds - will go straight toward rebuilding the IRGC military capabilities and its terrorist proxies. When your enemy is at its weakest - win.
This is the Hezbollah leader killed in an Israeli strike in Lebanon today - a guy who had kidnapped & killed 5 American soldiers. He was a Specially Designated Global Terrorist and wanted by the United States.
This is also the strike that Trump said never should have happened. As far as I'm concerned, the only response should have been, "Thank you."
🔴ELIMINATED: Ali Musa Daqduq, a senior Hezbollah commander who held a series of 5 senior positions within Hezbollah.
Daqduq played a central role in advancing terrorist attacks and combat operations against Israel and IDF soldiers. In 2007, he orchestrated the kidnapping and
According to President Trump's new standard, if al-Qaeda or Iran were to target Washington with "only" a few drones or missiles, and nobody was killed or injured, America should stand down and sign a deal with the aggressor. That approach will not bring peace to the region, including Lebanon and Israel. It risks teaching every side the same lesson: rearm, regroup, and prepare for the next round. A pause is not peace if everyone is simply loading more weapons for tomorrow.
Join me in once again calling for the resignation of @TheLancet editor Richard Horton.
Publishing a petition calling for the boycott of the Israeli Medical Association is an absolute disgrace. Medicine should bring physicians together in service of patients, not weaponize professional organizations for political campaigns.
Just as it failed the public on the #COVID19 origins debate, The Lancet is again positioning itself as a political actor rather than a medical journal.
These thugs fractured the spine of Sgt Kate Evans, who spoke in court of the medical and emotional trauma she still lives with.
Prison is where they belong.
Unlike Zack Polanski, I want serious consequences for anyone who attacks police officers risking their lives to protect us.
Gut wrenching to see four young people jailed for direct action against an arms supplier to Israel.
Years in prison for protesting to save lives in Gaza, with 'terrorism' used despite no jury convicting them of it.
A truly dangerous attack on the right to protest.
Remember: statements from both Trump and Iran mean absolutely nothing. They change their versions 20 times per day. Don't get blackpilled over what either side says. Wait to see the actual deal, if such a deal even exists. Might be both sides are making that up too.
There’s a reason Europe considers Hezbollah only half a terrorist group. France has forced the European Union to distinguish between Hezbollah’s military and political “wings,” the one sanctioned and the other diplomatically respectable. One problem: It’s a fiction, as Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi laid bare on Wednesday.
On Thaabet’s premise, that a Confederate flag tattoo would have been disqualifying, Platner’s nomination signals the mainstreaming of antisemitism in America today. Virtually every stream of scholarship in Holocaust and antisemitism studies treats this in one manner or another as the latent phase of a critical threshold.
By and large, no discriminatory law, no policy, no state act is being enacted but discriminatory lawmakers are being normalized in institutional mainstays of American life, media bias is rampant, and anti-Jewish discrimination is publicly expressed, displayed and defended.
In the post-‘45 settlement antisemitism was not abolished and stayed stable at somewhere between ten and fifteen percent for decades, but it was priced out of German public life. It was taboo, disqualifying. That was then and a different country.
In the crucible of the American Civil Rights movement in ‘64 antisemitism was surveyed at roughly thirty percent and dropped to mid teens across two generations. In that span privately held sentiments were tolerated by millions of Americans but association with it was career ending.
Today it sits just under twenty five percent, but by proxy and by another name, ‘Anti-Zionism,’ it has become mainstreamed and institutionally palatable. Asked about Platner’s Totenkopf, a Portland supporter said if it had been an Israel flag it would have been disqualifying.
It is probably right to say that when the SS insignia becomes survivable in a major party primary, defended on the street and from the floor, and ratified by party leadership, the price filter, to the extent there was one here in America, has now collapsed.
Is it a Rubicon? People debated that long after discriminatory policies were enacted in the form of Nuremberg laws in ‘35, all the way through ‘38’s Evian Conference until the massacres began in Europe.
Unsettling is too charitable. Ominous is parsimonious. Alarming is probably correct.
If Platner ever had a Confederate flag tattoo would he ever have been the nominee? Of course not. It would have been unthinkable. Ponder why *that* would be instantly disqualifying for Democrats but why a Nazi SS insignia isn’t. It’s unsettling.
This is a stark failure of the U.S.-led war. To reopen the strait that was open before the war, Iran gets a huge payout — clearly with U.S. approval. And Gulf states’ confidence in U.S. guarantees has declined to the point they feel the need to repair their relations with Iran -
Smart. He’s reminding the world of Trump’s initial red lines so everyone will be able to see how Trump allowed his own position to collapse since the ceasefire.
Last night, when the Islamic regime in Iran begged President Trump to stop the airstrikes against the regime, it did so through a third Arab party. That party was in Tehran until 5 a.m., made calls to Trump, and passed the phone to Iranian officials. Well, they all failed. America is winning.
