On #WorldMentalHealthDay, we recognize that protecting health during an outbreak goes beyond diagnosing and treating a disease. In #Uganda's 2026 #Ebola response, mental health and psychosocial support helped people cope with isolation, separation from loved ones, fear, uncertainty and the disruption of everyday life. By listening, counselling and helping families stay connected, mental health professionals played a vital role in supporting patients and communities throughout the response. As psychiatric nurse Daniel Dramile reminds us, outbreak response is not only about stopping a virus. It is also about caring for people. The EAC joins the Government and people of the Republic of Uganda in commemorating the country’s 64th Independence Day. On this special occasion, the EAC celebrates Uganda’s contribution to regional integration and its commitment to strengthening unity, cooperation and shared prosperity within the EAC. May the people of Uganda continue to enjoy peace, progress and prosperity as we advance our shared vision of a united and prosperous EAC. @StateHouseUg @meaca_ug @ArushaUganda

𝐄𝐀𝐂 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 The EAC is strengthening coordinated action to prevent, detect and rapidly respond to public health threats that cross borders, as Partner States step up preparedness for Ebola and other emerging and re-emerging health threats. Following the 26th Ordinary Meeting of the EAC Sectoral Council of Ministers of Health, in Arusha, Ministers advanced key regional mechanisms to strengthen health security: 🔹 Health Decisions & Directives Tracking Mechanism – strengthened monitoring, regular reviews and a Decision Implementation Dashboard to improve accountability and turn regional commitments into measurable results. 🔹 EAC Pooled Procurement Mechanism – all eight Partner States are now onboarded and trained on the digital platform, supporting better access to medicines, vaccines, diagnostics and other essential health products while strengthening regional production and reducing reliance on external supply chains. 🔹 Regional Information Sharing Platform for Pandemic & Epidemic Intelligence – advancing real-time information sharing, epidemic intelligence, surveillance and evidence-based decision-making across Partner States. 🌐 Ministers also emphasised timely cross-border sharing of health information and stronger use of digital systems to strengthen preparedness, surveillance and accountability. Stronger regional systems. Faster information sharing. Better preparedness. A safer EAC. 🤝
