Loud, repeated opinions are not facts. Canada isn’t an authoritarian state. It’s a constitutional democracy with free elections, an independent judiciary, and protected freedoms. We have freedom of expression, although it’s more limited than the U.S. First Amendment, not nonexistent. Canada doesn’t operate on “Muslim values”, our laws are based on the Constitution, NOT any religion. And while governments can expropriate property in specific legal circumstances with due process and compensation, that’s true in virtually every democratic country. Do you have specific examples of this happening? There are legitimate criticisms to make about Canada, but replacing facts with hyperbole doesn’t strengthen the argument, it weakens it.

Look, another ‘copy and paste sound bite’. We all agree that Canada has room to improve on issues like forest management, internal trade barriers, and some aspects of border security. But calling Canada a “security threat” isn’t supported by the facts. Canada remains one of the U.S.’s closest security allies through NORAD, NATO, and Five Eyes. The criticism from Trump and his administration also keeps shifting. At some point it’s fair to ask: is this really about border security, fire management, Chinese trade, or Canadian milk… or is it about ego. Perhaps it’s about controlling the markets? Or maybe it’s all a big distraction.

@416Jets Canada is a security threat. This is why Trump is acting this way. The latest thing he rightly pointed out is our lack of forest management. We should clean up our act and take responsibility on multiple fronts if we want to be treated with respect again by the Americans.

The Truth About Milk 🥛🇨🇦🇺🇸 Yes, Canada has high over-quota dairy tariffs on the books. But here’s the part that keeps getting left out: They’ve never been triggered on U.S. milk under USMCA. Not once. The U.S. gets a large tariff-free quota to sell dairy into Canada. Those quotas have never been filled, so the 200–300% over-quota tariffs have never actually been applied to U.S. exports. Even the U.S. dairy industry has acknowledged it has never come close to exceeding the quotas. Canada is a country of just 41 million people. We simply don’t consume enough imported U.S. dairy to hit the quota limits. The “270% tariff on Canadian milk” talking point/ sound bite leaves out the most important fact: it has never actually been charged on U.S. exports.

Nobody stated that it wasn’t under USMCA. Anyone with a brain knows it’s in the agreement. Of course America will keep going. It’s a great and powerful country. And no, USMCA doesn’t ’run out soon’, it’s under active renegotiation. If agreements can’t be made, it will sunset in 2036. Not worried here, bro. There are many valid points here. Canada does have significant interprovincial trade barriers and protects several industries, including supply-managed agriculture, banking, telecom, and some provincial monopolies. Those are legitimate criticisms. It would serve Canadians well to understand more about protectionism and why that matters. But your reply/ argument loses credibility by mixing in claims that are false, exaggerated, or unsupported. Such as government-controlled lumber pricing, the claim that Doug Ford spent hundreds of millions on U.S. ads, and presenting the justification for U.S. tariffs as an established fact rather than a political opinion. Sticking to verifiable facts would make the case much stronger. Clearly you’re educated and Informed. There is no need for hyper-partisan rhetoric, exaggerations and opinions presented as facts.

We all drive highway 11! That could have been any of us. Heart breaks for Bhishma Rajyaguru, just 22, from Regina Saskatchewan who was killed when Jayden Dalke of the Saskatchewan Roughriders was driving on the wrong side of a major divided highway. A horrifying reminder of how quickly your life can change- or end. Heart goes out to both men’s families and loved ones.

@Mudguy11 They don’t go over the quota because the demand isn’t there for them to go over the quota. The USA has the same quota on dairy products to Canada. And nothing I said makes me stupid. It’s all a statement of fact, not a personal opinion.

For the record- I’m a big fan of America and Americans. I’ve got lots of friends down in the states. From California, to Montana, to Florida. I’ve been to the USA no less than 40 times and I’ve visited 50% of all states- from New Mexico, to Alaska, to Louisiana and Texas. I’ve always loved local culture, hospitality, the food and the company. My biggest wish as a Canadian is that we can go back to the way things were before the rhetoric, the threats, the drama. We’re Canadian. We like it when we’re not the centre of attention. We don’t want to be in American news. We just want to be the peaceful friendly neighbour that shows up when needed. Look, both countries have their fair share of issues and challenges. People are mostly good on both sides of the borders. Personally, I don’t respect booing anyone’s national anthem, or generalizing a population, or associating one countries peoples with failed politicians. Americans are proud people. I would say the most patriotic in the world. It should be noted that Canadians are allowed to be proud people, too. And that shouldn’t be a threat to eachother, it should be celebrated. Canadians want what Americans want. To support our own people and companies with a thriving economy. That shouldn’t be seen as the enemy of eachother. You can’t want something and say that another person doesn’t get the same opportunity to want that too. You have to earn respect, not demand it.

The U.S. has trade quotas on Canada, also. With certain cheeses, milk powders, butter, and other dairy products. Canadian exports can enter at a low or zero tariff up to the quota, with higher tariffs applying above it. Removing the over quota tariff because it hasn’t been triggered would be like canceling your house insurance because your house hasn’t burned down. The policy exists in case circumstances change. (On both sides of the border and defined in the USMCA framework) The ultimate decision for the Canadian Government. Protect the dairy industries supply management in Canada, or remove quotas allowing non-Canadian dairy to entry the market in much higher numbers, possibly fracturing the Canadian dairy industry.
