The Yankees traded for Jon Berti. Berti played in 133 games for the Marlins last year. He hit .294/.344/.405 with a 103 wRC+ and had a 2.1 fWAR. Berti is a good bottom-of-the-order/bench bat with a great glove. He had a 3 OAA at short and 2 OAA at third. With DJ LeMahieu looking to start on the IL and Oswaldo Cabrera showing he may not be an everyday MLB player, Berti is the kind of guy you try to acquire and let him play for the time being. I kicked and screamed about depth, and here it is. Some other stuff about Berti: His .281 xBA was in the 87th percentile last year. His 6.8 walk rate was in the 30th percentile, but his 21.4% chase rate was in the 88th percentile, his 19.8% whiff rate was in the 79th, and his 18.2% k rate was in the 74th. You take that kind of production this year.
@LibrarianJoe_ If he just repeats his last year numbers, will make the Yankees better.
@LibrarianJoe_ This guy is also a good defender, specially at 2b, 3b. He also plays the OF.
@LibrarianJoe_ Berti is going to like the short porch in right.
@LibrarianJoe_ Good pick up for a guy we were going to have to release anyway!
@LibrarianJoe_ Typical cashman move. Trying to squeeze some juice outnof a 35 year old utility guy. So I guess they’re not sold on Cabrera, another prospect ruined.
@LibrarianJoe_ In133 games, new SB rules, how did he not run wild? As a bench player in 2022, he had something crazy like 20 SB in 30 games when he got a stretch of playing time. Had him on my roto team, could be embellishing. He had hammy issues in 2022. Was he nursing another one in 2023?
@LibrarianJoe_ I love this trade. He’s going to play a lot of 3b for us this year.
