If you as a brand use marginalized people in your advertisements YOU have a responsibility to protect them. If the worse people show up in the comments that’s in indicator that you need to do a bit more work here.

I called Son De Flor out in 2019 for lacking diverse models and influencers and me and mates got targeted by n*zis. They then said they’d change and now the pattern repeats targeting a person, and not really protecting them or shutting down the comments.
Well, I’ve found this morning’s rage inducing fact

I shared one of my “sweatshops are bad” tweet threads on Twitter, and someone stopped by to say, “Privilege much?” And if that isn’t the perfect encapsulation of how sweatshop defenders see this whole thing, I don’t know what is.

Or maybe it's time to set up a non woke bank for all of us who are fed up with being told what to say and how to think?
It’s a bit like the story of the Nazi bar. At first the Nazis are allowed in because they don’t seem to be taking up much space or sharing their points of view. Then they invite their friends who invite their friends, and now you’re the Nazi bar. You can’t be wishywashy about it.
A lot of brands are cowards. They want the diversity cookies, but when they have to court potential risk and alienation by vocally supporting (frequently underpaid) marginalized people, it’s crickets. 🦗🦗🦗

I hate how Son De Flor saga still stings. I’m glad they came correct but can’t help feel a little residual resentment for pushing them with not even a thanks. Also they still have bigoted people in their comments 🙃
Now lemme say, I want all ethical brands to do well. Including Son De Flor. But I always want brands to DO MORE for the people who sell their clothes. If you're capitalizing on queer identities, make it clear that you support that community with YOUR WORDS.
Stop giving out participation trophies that are unearned and come from a cost of harm done to marginalized people. It's a shitty way to operate.
That "inclusivity" that white women are giving them has come at a toll to non white people who have pushed them to do better. They don't really deserve the credit here. Support them if you want, I'm fine with it but recognize who's put in the work here.
I'm glad that Son De Flor finally said something but I'm sick of folks calling them "inclusive" when their fan base is full of n*zis and TERFs because they don't actually take any sort of stance until things get REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD.
The ethics behind who we buy from and support has to stop being as shallow as a bowl of soup. Way too many tweets encouraging folks to support Son De Flor when it took them four ENTIRE days to support the content creator getting shit flung at them. That's not a good look.
