Opinion: Why aren’t doctors telling patients these simple ways to reduce the risk of #dementia? cnn.com/2023/05/12/opi… #Alzheimers #health #publichealth
@LEAD_Coalition @DrPalmquist I wonder why the effect of diet was omitted. "Among cohort studies, each one-point increase in the MD scores was associated with an 9% reduced risk of developing AD or MCI (RR = 0.91; 95%CI, 0.88–0.94)." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
@LEAD_Coalition Agreed... and please add COVID-19 to the list of risk factors. One of many studies to that effect: jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…
@LEAD_Coalition I would turn your question around in two ways 1) Which of these things are we not encouraging already? 2) What is the evidence that interventions to modify these factors alter dementia risk?
@LEAD_Coalition We do it! But people don’t follow those recomendations so easily
@LEAD_Coalition Certainly my Mothers Geriatrixian mentioned these to me. Emphasizing good blood pressure and good blood sugar control. As someone with both Parents with a dementia, I'm concerned for my risk.
@LEAD_Coalition We are in Scotland doing public awareness around modifiable risk factors and teaching brain health in schools. There is a free online school education on brain health brainhealth.scot
@LEAD_Coalition Gut gut gut gut. Gut gut gut. Lyme. Mold. Gut gut gut.
@LEAD_Coalition Although i ve always thought including head injury strange- i m not sure its modifiable at individual level -although town plannjng for safe cycling and pedestrians would help hugely
@LEAD_Coalition Most half decent ones are but the evidence for many of these is still very slim
