I hate the idea of "hacking roadmaps" Instead view the hacking journey as an ongoing process rather than a quick-fix to-do list. Everything you do, every experience you have, every blog post you've, CTF you've played in, it's all useful. It's all part of that ongoing process

I had a boss who basically power tripped over me. He would get on my ass over any little thing. I hated my life. I quit that job. I unironically used places like Craigslist to find a computer repair job at a small place. I liked the place, the people were nice, but pay and work conditions were terrible. I ended up getting laid off. I then was contacted by a tech recruiter to do another help desk role for a bigger company. I was excited. It was extremely formal. I had to dress all fancy and stuff. But, the hours kind of sucked and they laid me off on Christmas As is tradition, using GitHub and a tech recruiter, I got a job as a software engineer from my self-taught programming. I was insanely under paid compared to my coworkers who had degrees. I was, as is tradition, laid off. I was then, as is tradition, used a recruiter to go and work at another place doing programming. They paid me more, but still under paid due to lack of a degree. This place was miserable. They had "crunch time". Sometimes I worked 80 hours a week. I would sleep under my desk at work. I was laid off, as is tradition, right around Christmas And, as is tradition, a tech recruiter for me another job doing programming. I was paid better. I had my own office. I was profoundly depressed because of how burnt out I was from work. During this job I decided to start a side project for a subject I was extremely passionate about (malware) and made a website called vx-underground. Then, in a way which breaks tradition, as my passion project got clout and popularity suddenly I was valuable and offered jobs. I got a job doing malware research. They paid me well. I loved the job. Then, in a way which breaks tradition, another company offered me a job due to my passion project. I didn't want to leave my malware research job because I loved the people and stuff. But then they offered me (what I consider) an absurd amount of money and tons of extra benefits As far as my passion project (vx-underground), the first three years it didn't really make any money. As it grew in popularity I now have enough to kind of cover bills, pay myself, and people who help me. My wife was happy that this website I decide essentially all my free time too pays me. Last year, after tax, paying people, paying bills, I profited (for myself) $30,000+- from vx-underground. It took me a LONG time to get paid well and get respected. It sucks but I think it's worth it. However, I don't have a degree and I don't have any certifications.

My first job in cybersecurity paid $50k. I had a car loan, lived in a studio apartment, and was juggling a ton of bills and debt. It wasn’t a great salary, but it was manageable - you just have to be smart with your money.

Guy posts on social media that he is amazed by technology as he's begun to learn basic programming skills. He's developed a new perspective on technology. Dorks come to the comment section to share negativity. If you learned to code because of money you won't go very far. You'll hate your job and you'll hate your life. You'll fail to keep up and maintain the continual education requirements. You won't make "big money". Also, we as a nerd society need to stop dissing noobs. I love noobs. Noobs are innocent creatures who just want to learn. They're like little baby birdies who want to learn how to fly. Let them enjoy things and share what they've learned even if it's something you already know. Let a motherfucker have some child like wonder, God damn. You're doing good stuff, @soundrotator . Chinese scientists have developed the best shortest-path algorithm in 41 years! A team from Tsinghua University has broken Dijkstra’s “sorting barrier” — the first improvement since 1984. The new algorithm runs in O(m \log^{2/3} n) time. Potential applications? Faster shorter waits for route calculations, fewer traffic jams, cheaper deliveries, and more efficient computer networks.
