Amazing to connect with the women at HMP Stirling last week. Harper House's Prison to Rehab pathway offers hope. It means that on release, parents can move directly into residential rehabilitation — instead of back into the same challenges 💜 #recovery #wholefamilysupport

Understanding addiction through a trauma aware lens: — Addiction is not a moral failing. — Addiction is a symptom or maladaptive coping mechanism. — Substances are used to attempt to soothe the nervous system. — When we don’t learn coping strategies, addiction can develop. — People struggling with addiction carry internal conflict, pain, and shame. — Research shows a correlation between insecure attachment and substance abuse.
