Unfortunately, I completely agree that the United States of America is rapidly descending into all-out conflict between left and right. The Luigi left, Kirk killers, anti-Tesla terrorists, and Altman attackers are already in shoot-on-sight mode against conservatives, libertarians, and technologists. The right isn’t there yet; they’re called reactionaries because they only react, so they’re always one cycle behind. Thus, the left has already started shooting while the right is still “only” mirroring the lawfare of last decade’s left. But anyone can see how incandescently angry the American right is getting, so one can expect them to mirror leftist tactics eventually, just as J6 followed BLM. A problem then arises. You see, when communists and nationalists duke it out, technologists tend to be hated by both sides…and tend to leave. That’s what happened in Europe. In the early 1900s, Europe was the undisputed center of science. But then the far left rose to power in Russia, and in response arose a far right in Germany, and then those two psychotic factions blew each other up and took much of Europe with them. The result was that scientists with options left. Shown below is the graph of Nobel prizes. Science used to be centered in Europe when America was still a relative backwater…renowned for cranking out widgets but not much else. Then, as Europe tore itself apart, the smart scientists (and capitalists) simply left for America. Many had no choice; you just couldn’t be a Russian capitalist in the Soviet Union or a Jewish scientist in Nazi Germany, no matter how many years your family might have been in the country. Passionate protestations of ideological loyalty and everlasting patriotism didn’t matter. At best the enemy classes and races were unbanked and denaturalized; at worst they were simply killed. And arguably, all of that — the communism, the nationalism, the wars — all of that arose from the disruption wrought by the Industrial Revolution. We might anticipate similar levels of disruption from the Information Revolution. If so, if America is torn between Democrats and Republicans, or Wokes and MAGAs, or whatever factions succeed them, it’s just not going to be a good place for technological progress. Instead, progress will decentralize to other locations around the world, as it did before.
Gonna try to explain this to tech CEOs again: Young Americans are pissed. They feel betrayed. Half have embraced the far right & want to cut off your access to cheap foreign labor. The other half have embraced the far left & want to cut off your head. One side will win. Choose.
They arrested the President of the United States of America 4X, charged him 91X, indicted him 4X, spied on his campaign, sabotaged his first term, jailed his supporters, raided his private residence, censored him, gagged him, tried to bankrupt him, and attempted to remove him from state ballots. When all of that failed they tried to assassinate him not once but four times. And they go on national television to talk about how we need to vote for them to save democracy.
💯
In 1913, only 1% of households filed income tax Now, 100% do. Every time a tax scheme is created, it starts with "just the rich" and quickly applies to everyone. Every time. California will seize assets of every citizen if this passes. Not income, assets. Your house. Your
LONG POST I believe the “Technological Republic” by Alex Karp is going to be the definitive manifesto for the upcoming generation. There were times as I was reading this book that I thought Karp had excised my own mind, for I did not realize that there were other people who thought like this. Finding courage in such a company, I wanted to add my own unique stories which helped me shape my own belief structure that found this book so morally compelling and important– as a person who had the privilege to live both Western and Eastern lives. When I got married in Korea several years ago, my uncle (one of Korea’s most transformative critical theorists, and later political party) told me during 폐백 (paebaek) something I will never forget. Surrounded by the radiant diversity of all my international friends in this moment of love’s celebration, his life advice to me was: “You might feel like an American today, but never forget America is homeless.” As someone who considers himself American, I was instinctively a little annoyed, but I also knew exactly what he meant. This feeling is precisely what Alex Karp is intimately describing in his book as “the abandonment of belief”. As America fundamentally abdicated the notion of a national culture in the name of inclusivity, this begged then the obvious question: inclusion into what? The US does not have the moral clarity of a unifying cultural identity for which there is a sense of belonging mostly because the technocratic republic has destroyed it in the name of market triumphalism as a consumption-first model (correctly blamed on Silicon Valley's insurmountable appetite for the search/ad business which by definition must have no identity to maximally cast the widest net for consumer eyeballs). There is no engineering instinct on a national security related tether that brings the people together in the name of what America aspires for and to be. That is what my uncle meant by homelessness: having many communities who only believe in vehement secularism is having no community. There is an interesting Japanese word called kokutai (国体), which has no synonymous word in the English (or Korean) language. Wikipedia calls it “national body/structure of state” or Herbert Bix in Hirohito calls it a “national essence.” The lack of such a collective belief in the American identity is precisely why the Ukraine/NATO is increasingly unbridgeable among Americans. When the elites describe a “shared” goal by taking a moral stance that “America can do better” while comfortably watching the Oscars, many Americans who actually served and lived (or currently living) the war will ask: “shared goal…with WHOM? And what risk did YOU take?” Because they were actually the ones that fought and died on the line to defend your right to be comfortable at home tonight. It is simply not enough to project moral superiority as a “superpower” outward internationally if you are not able to enthuse your own national identity to believe that you are one. Karp notes that reconstruction of a technological republic must require a collective experience, of shared purpose and identity of civic rituals. In Korea, one of the defining kinships all men have with each other, regardless of whether you are a World Cup soccer player, billionaire’s son or a regular citizen, is 군대: the patriotic conscription into mandatory military service. This is also why I know that no matter how well I speak Korean, act Korean, live Korean, the moment I answer “I never served” I immediately become othered into “the foreigner” despite my lifelong flesh. After many years of being caught in an existential fog, I have come to understand and accept this. Because my uncle is also wrong if he thinks America being homeless somehow equates to my having a home in Korea. I love Korea and I always will, but a nation is simply “a vast solidarity, constituted by the sentiment of the sacrifices one has made and of those one is yet prepared to make” and while I was once belonged, I no longer belong there. Similarly, Lee Kuan Yew’s kokutai to rebuild Singapore was called junzi (君子). America needs to rebuild cultural specificity as it relates to education, politics, and technology. It needs a mandatory conscription of ideas, actions, and ultimately–sacrifices–on behalf of a shared mythological national goal. Of the countlessly many brilliant quotable sentences in the book, by far the most important statement, if the book could be reduced to one line, is this: “the challenge we now face, in rebuilding a technological republic, is directing that engineering instinct, an indeed ruthless pragmatism, toward the nation’s shared goals, which can be identified only if we take the risk of defining who we are or aspire to be.” Thank you Alex and Nicholas @PalantirTech for sharing your passionate commitment to defend the West and its values. I hope my own small part in pushing it forward will add resolve for others.
Because we get asked a lot. The Technological Republic, in brief. 1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation. 2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible. 3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public. 4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software. 5. The question is not whether A.I. weapons will be built; it is who will build them and for what purpose. Our adversaries will not pause to indulge in theatrical debates about the merits of developing technologies with critical military and national security applications. They will proceed. 6. National service should be a universal duty. We should, as a society, seriously consider moving away from an all-volunteer force and only fight the next war if everyone shares in the risk and the cost. 7. If a U.S. Marine asks for a better rifle, we should build it; and the same goes for software. We should as a country be capable of continuing a debate about the appropriateness of military action abroad while remaining unflinching in our commitment to those we have asked to step into harm’s way. 8. Public servants need not be our priests. Any business that compensated its employees in the way that the federal government compensates public servants would struggle to survive. 9. We should show far more grace towards those who have subjected themselves to public life. The eradication of any space for forgiveness—a jettisoning of any tolerance for the complexities and contradictions of the human psyche—may leave us with a cast of characters at the helm we will grow to regret. 10. The psychologization of modern politics is leading us astray. Those who look to the political arena to nourish their soul and sense of self, who rely too heavily on their internal life finding expression in people they may never meet, will be left disappointed. 11. Our society has grown too eager to hasten, and is often gleeful at, the demise of its enemies. The vanquishing of an opponent is a moment to pause, not rejoice. 12. The atomic age is ending. One age of deterrence, the atomic age, is ending, and a new era of deterrence built on A.I. is set to begin. 13. No other country in the history of the world has advanced progressive values more than this one. The United States is far from perfect. But it is easy to forget how much more opportunity exists in this country for those who are not hereditary elites than in any other nation on the planet. 14. American power has made possible an extraordinarily long peace. Too many have forgotten or perhaps take for granted that nearly a century of some version of peace has prevailed in the world without a great power military conflict. At least three generations — billions of people and their children and now grandchildren — have never known a world war. 15. The postwar neutering of Germany and Japan must be undone. The defanging of Germany was an overcorrection for which Europe is now paying a heavy price. A similar and highly theatrical commitment to Japanese pacifism will, if maintained, also threaten to shift the balance of power in Asia. 16. We should applaud those who attempt to build where the market has failed to act. The culture almost snickers at Musk’s interest in grand narrative, as if billionaires ought to simply stay in their lane of enriching themselves . . . . Any curiosity or genuine interest in the value of what he has created is essentially dismissed, or perhaps lurks from beneath a thinly veiled scorn. 17. Silicon Valley must play a role in addressing violent crime. Many politicians across the United States have essentially shrugged when it comes to violent crime, abandoning any serious efforts to address the problem or take on any risk with their constituencies or donors in coming up with solutions and experiments in what should be a desperate bid to save lives. 18. The ruthless exposure of the private lives of public figures drives far too much talent away from government service. The public arena—and the shallow and petty assaults against those who dare to do something other than enrich themselves—has become so unforgiving that the republic is left with a significant roster of ineffectual, empty vessels whose ambition one would forgive if there were any genuine belief structure lurking within. 19. The caution in public life that we unwittingly encourage is corrosive. Those who say nothing wrong often say nothing much at all. 20. The pervasive intolerance of religious belief in certain circles must be resisted. The elite’s intolerance of religious belief is perhaps one of the most telling signs that its political project constitutes a less open intellectual movement than many within it would claim. 21. Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive. All cultures are now equal. Criticism and value judgments are forbidden. Yet this new dogma glosses over the fact that certain cultures and indeed subcultures . . . have produced wonders. Others have proven middling, and worse, regressive and harmful. 22. We must resist the shallow temptation of a vacant and hollow pluralism. We, in America and more broadly the West, have for the past half century resisted defining national cultures in the name of inclusivity. But inclusion into what? Excerpts from the #1 New York Times Bestseller The Technological Republic: Hard Power, Soft Belief, and the Future of the West, by Alexander C. Karp & Nicholas W. Zamiska techrepublicbook.com

🚨 Here is the full 40 minutes of my crew and I exposing California fraud, Minnesota was big but California is even bigger... We uncovered over $170,000,000 in fraud as these fraudsters live in luxury with no consequences. Like it and share it, the fraud must STOP. We ALL work way too hard and pay too much in taxes for this to be happening. These fraudsters have been able to defraud American taxpayers for years without any pushback from the public and politicians. It is time to EXPOSE IT ALL and end America's fraud crisis.
@carolmswain @nypost You’re an idiot. It has nothing to do with race. It’s about criminals and law and order. Especially illegal aliens. WAKE UP!

The Welfare Voting Paradox We have created a system where 47% of Americans pay ZERO federal income tax, yet they vote on how to spend everyone else's money. When more people vote for benefits than pay for them, is that democracy or legalized plunder? Here is the genuine question nobody wants to answer: If politicians can win elections by promising more welfare to an ever-growing recipient base funded by a shrinking taxpayer base, what stops the spending? We have millions of voters whose "lobbyist payment" is their ballot for more handouts. That is not lobbying with cash, that is lobbying with votes. Democrats need people on welfare like plantation owners needed slaves - a permanent underclass dependent on them for survival. Welfare recipients outnumber net taxpayers in many districts. You honestly think those politicians WANT people leaving the system? Of course not! They need their voting bloc. The incentive structure is broken. Politicians get elected by promising free stuff. Recipients vote for more free stuff. Taxpayers fund the free stuff. And anyone who questions this cycle gets called heartless. That is not a sustainable republic. That is a fiscal death spiral with a democratic veneer. But what do I know, I am only someone who actually understands how incentive structures work and what happens when more people vote themselves benefits than contribute to funding them.
