@danielrpopper Last year, people blasted Herbert because he couldn’t drive the team down the field the last 2 minutes. In every single one of those situations, it was because the opposition just sent the house and smothered our OL and JH. I wanted a receiver too, but this is the right move.
@danielrpopper Most fans on Twitter are casual fans. OT isn't a sexy pick. A large portion of the fan base didn't even know who Joe Alt was until he was drafted. Casual fans also tend to be the biggest criers. Alt was a fantastic pick.
While this is a fair point. Accidents happen. What if he gets hurt again this year? Will look even worse than last year, no? Or what if Alt gets hurt. Then what are we left with? Just too many questions and what ifs to say anything is going to happen one way or another.

If you think the Alt was bad you don’t know ball. We haven’t been able to run the ball or protect the qb for years and slater/Alt combo will provide more time and allow WRs to get more open. Also remember this is a deeeeeep wr draft

Chargers selecting Joe Alt at 5 will upset fans and will feel like a reach until it's late in the season and they can control the clock with the run game and Justin Herbert is healthy for a playoff run. Champions are built from the inside out. It's a line of scrimmage game.

Chargers are building from the trenches out. Drafting Joe Alt who is a BIG BODY, athletic and NASTY is a Jim Harbaugh blue print. Justin Herbert won’t have protection issues with Harbaugh running the ship.
