@Ian_Willoughby Closing or relocating the magistrala underground between the museum and the station is the only thing that would restore this area of the city to what it should be. A city with such good public transport shouldn’t need a 6 lane highway right through its centre — others don’t

Another day, another truly special experience. Around the city of Tuzla in Bosnia, you can find the last* working non-heritage steam locomotives in the world. I felt like David Attenborough tracking down a rare animal. Days of nothing, then this brief joyful glimpse. *AFAIK

@richardparke15 @35mmags We aren’t mind readers, it’s not clear who is who until we ask or don’t ask. Radical idea: rail staff shouldn’t have to fear abuse and aggression for making a very reasonable request of a passenger

@richardparke15 @35mmags Rail staff can’t win - for every passenger that regards revenue duties as an annoyance, there’s another that hates it if their ticket or railcard isn’t checked because otherwise they may as well not have bought it

@AvaSantina All the guards I know dread, not relish these situations. Imagine if every time at work you made a reasonable request (for a ticket or railcard) it could escalate to aggression. There’s been a 25% increase in assaults on rail staff this year. Seems a bit cruel to act like this?

Happy Halloween from Bran Castle in Transylvania - the castle very tenuously linked to Vlad the Impaler🧛. As usual my Brompton enthusiast costume had people fleeing on sight, but the entrance queue was the scariest thing I saw.

Cycled for hours today. Climbed ~600m. Exhausted. As darkness falls I reach Kovachevitsa in the Rhodope mountains. At the Inn I’m treated to a hearty stew, flan and blackcurrant wine. The smell of firewood. It could be 100 years ago. All’s well with the world for a bit.
