I understand everyone wanting more in return for Guentzel. But I think the fan reaction is a little excessive. If he had more than three months left on his contract, it would be a completely different story. He’s a rental who wasn’t willing to negotiate with the trading team. 🤷🏻♂️
@JoshYohe_PGH Did he not want to negotiate with the pens as well I’m hearing conflicting reports Emily Kaplan says he didn’t, and local reporters said he did
@JoshYohe_PGH With him being a rental and reports that he never really wanted to leave the team could you see the pens making a serious try to get him back in free agency or is that a lost cause at this point?
@JoshYohe_PGH I love how “analysts” know 2 minutes after a trade about prospects when hockey prospects are the least predictable and talented of any pro sport. Who heard of Guentzel when he was in the Pens system or thought he would be a player?
@JoshYohe_PGH @Brian_Metzer A lot of it is that they supposedly wanted quality over quantity and didn't follow through on that. Just because Dubas has a man-crush on Bunting doesn't mean he should've been "the main get" in this trade. None of these guys will help the core come close to another cup.
Josh: if this was a fair return for a 3 mo rental, why are the trade grades by The Athletic's hockey writers so bad? Surely they understand these same dynamics and limitations. They uniformly say that the Pens return was underwhelming. Not trying to dunk on Kyle; just want to understand where the disconnect is.
